Typhoon Nesat

Today we experienced our first Typhoon here in Hong Kong.  School was cancelled and they also said that many offices were shut down.  Even if the offices weren't closed, it get difficult to travel when the bus and train services are running minimal schedules.  At first it was just a bunch of wind and a little rain off and on.  We really wondered what all the fuss was about.  We had a lot of fun staying in our jammies, talking to people back home and just hanging out together.  Then mid-afternoon, the sun came out and the birds started chirping.  Scott thought it was all over, so he got cleaned up and ready to go to work.  By the time he was ready to head out the door - this happened...

Perhaps the pictures don't do it justice, but the wind was blowing like crazy and the rain was coming down in sheets.  It was like this for about 2 hours, then it really did stop.  The weather settled down a bit, so we went down to the market to get out of the house for a bit.  There wasn't too much damage around us, just some trees at our apartment blew over and there was a lot of debris around.  It was a crazy experience and we were glad that we were together as a family.
