We decided that for Christmas Eve we would go out and see all of the amazing displays around Hong Kong. For all the big holidays places like malls, parks and and other various and random buildings put up these huge displays. Think Disneyland intricate displays all over town - the one in Central even included a carousel. We thought we would try to see as many as we could all over town, so we jumped into a taxi for our first stop - Festival Walk Mall. Well, it should have taken about 15 minutes to get there, but it took over an hour! When we got there they were just starting an ice-skating program, so we stayed and watched that for a few minutes.
Then we walked around the mall to the various displays. And, took way too many pictures. I will spare you most of them, but just to show how crazy some of these things are here are a few.
This is not a very big mall, but it had a four-story high tree, moving ski lift, train and these strange looking elf-y guys all over.
Well, even the best laid plans don't always go right - after sitting all that time in the taxi, the kids (I mean me) were hungry, so we jumped on the train and went looking for a place to eat and thought we would just see what we could on the way. We chose Indian food - a departure from our Christmas Eve Chinese food - because we are in China and what fun is that? We didn't have a place in mind, but we said that we would go to the first place that handed us a flier (which they do a lot here).
It could have been bad, but it was actually pretty good food - and there was Indian food on fire. That's not even our food, but it looked like fun to take a picture of.
We did see a couple of more displays, but the kids were not up for any more pictures, so we just headed home. They had each received an ornament from one of their cousins in the mail. They had so much fun getting them because they were from the US.
They hung up their ornaments then opened their pajamas. Yes, I did matching jammies this year - I get to do that sometimes. Then, off to bed to wait for Santa!!!
